Baby It's Cold Outside!!

Whew doggies ,,, it be cold!
I woke up this morning to find all is well as far as I know. We survived the winter night. Hubby worked midnight shift last night. I feel sorry for him. There is no relief from this cold on the trucking dock where he works.
I had eight cats in the house last night. All but three of them spent the night curled up on rugs and dog beds. The other three opted to go back onto the porch in their house with the heat lamp. The dogs of course dont give me a problem. They lay guard in front of the gas heater. Just in case someone decides to steal it. I am afraid anyone that tried would lose an arm.
When I went to feed the chickens this morning I had those visions that you have when you dont know what to expect after a cruel winter night. Even though I had bought them a heat lamp and clamped it to the ceiling, just close enough to the roosts so they could huddle up under it. (the house is quite small and not connected to any of the other buildings.) I was carrying their warm water and scratch grain to the chicken house. I somehow felt that I would find them (4 hens and 1 rooster) all frozen solid to the roosts. I heard a faint sound then as I got closer I could make out what was going on. I heard singing. "round and round and round you go, swing your partner and dos-e-do. Chicken in the bread pan, kickin" out dough!" Yes! They were alive! And square dancing under the heat of their lamp. How wonderful to see the rooster arm in arm with his little girlfriends, just passing the time away til the weather improves.
The horses of course were fine. They thrive in the cold. They had frosty whiskers this morning. All were cuddled in their stalls and chomping their teeth for breakfast. I put blankets on them all before turning them out to play in the cold sunny day.
Well, I now have the pleasure of cleaning the stalls. The one bright side is the turds are frozen, so if you need to you can pitch them into the wheel barrow by hand.

I bet the square dancing kept them warm! I'm too much of a softy, I kept my chickens inside during a cold snap, luckily the weather warmed, the B's went back outside, and my marriage was saved. Keep dancing chickens!
