toll road

Last week when the winds from Ike were blowing, we had just got home from the Delaware fair. We unloaded Ritzy and all his equipment. We unhooked the trailer and got the rest of the horses in the barn for feeding. It was about 5:30. I was going to take Jess, the neighbor girl home. (she is 17 and loves horses and helps me a lot) We had dashed into the house for a moment. When we started to come out the door to get in the truck, the wind was so fierce the trees were bending and crackling like I had never heard before. Jess and I ran over each over getting back inside. We did this three times before we had the courage to get in the truck. At that point I started the truck and zipped out of the driveway away from those trees. I delivered Jess home safe and sound and headed back to the farm. When I got to my road two trees had fallen over the road in the ten minutes I was gone. The trees blocked me from getting to my driveway, however, they didnt block me from entering my track and driving along my track to the upper entrance , where I came back out on the road beyond the downed trees. Pretty slick.
That got me to thinking about the people that would be trying to get through and couldnt. But alas, I could route them onto my track like I did. Hmmmmmmm. I had just told someone a few days before how I always wanted a toll road, and so my dream came true. For a mere 25cents, I would be glad to let them detour on my track. (smirk , smirk)
Well, I managed to pocket 75 cents, and the people got a huge kick out of it. Then the township came out and cleaned the trees off the road. Of all the times for them to be prompt at cleaning up.
And so my dreams of owning a toll road were answered. It was short lived, but at least I know dreams can come true.

we'll have to scrounge up some scrap boards and build you a nice toll booth complete with the arm that raises up and down. I can see it now! Boards of various sizes with chicken turds plastering them, bent over nails, twine tied together to raise and lower the half stained piece of crown molding (aka toll arm). An ice cream bucket with a slit cut in the lid would do nicely for a money box. We'll take care of a certain trustee and tell him to leave your toll road alone!! K

Glad to see you back on the blog.
missed your funny quotes. Also glad you have gas and electric again. one you can do without for a while but both is like living in the dark ages! Give Ritzy an extra treat from me for racing so well.
looking forward to your next story.
